The situation for Gaza’s children has turned catastrophic, with increasing hunger and disease. UNICEF is there on the ground, doing what it can to lessen the suffering of the children in Gaza and deliver as many emergency supplies as possible.

This winter, hundreds of thousands of families are threatened by a humanitarian catastrophe. Weakened by conflict and natural disasters, they have to face the icy cold unprotected. For children, this is a mortal danger. UNICEF is on the ground, providing aid that is urgently required.

After two years of war, nearly half of Ukraine’s population depends on humanitarian aid – including more than four million children. UNICEF is working in Ukraine and many neighboring countries and continuing its emergency response.

One year ago, on February 6, 2023, devastating earthquakes hit the border region between Turkey and Syria. More than 50,000 lives were lost. The massive destruction left the affected population in urgent need of humanitarian aid – including more than ten million children. UNICEF is still working in the earthquake region and providing long-term aid.

Yemen remains one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world. After nine long years of conflict, the country is deeply mired in an economic crisis. Its infrastructure has largely collapsed and the supply situation is worsening steadily. More than half of the population is dependent on humanitarian aid.

The war in Syria is entering its fourteenth year. Almost all Syrian children, both inside and outside the country, have had to cope with violence, loss and displacement.

Afghanistan is under threat from a humanitarian disaster: weakened by multiple crisessuch as natural catastrophes, conflicts, disease and hunger, people are battling for survival every day. This situation was made considerably worse by the devastating earthquakes that hit the west of the country at the beginning of October. More than half of the population need urgent help, including 15 million children.

Sudan is facing a humanitarian catastrophe of epic proportions. 14 million children lack food, safe water, shelter and medical care. They urgently need humanitarian aid.

In November 2023, a devastating earthquake shook western Nepal. Around 200,000 people, including 68,000 children, still need humanitarian assistance.

There have never been as many child refugees as there are today. The numbers are dramatic: 103 million people are fleeing over land, across water and through deserts and war zones. This figure includes 36.5 million children.
