CfC St. Moritz and UNICEF Kick-Off Long Term Collaboration with Inaugural Charity NFT Auction and Educational Event in Aid of the Giga Partnership

UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein has announced a collaboration with the Crypto Finance Conference (CfC St. Moritz), the most relevant digital assets and blockchain conference for investors and decision makers. Together, the partners will support Giga, a partnership between UNICEF and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) working to connect every school to the internet, and every young person to information, opportunity, and choice.

To begin this collaboration, UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein and CfC St. Moritz will host an NFT auction at the upcoming CfC St. Moritz in January 2022. Four artists — Jani Leinonen, Nadie Brehmer, Philipp Schaerer and Robertson Kaeppeli — will each create a unique piece of art exclusively for the auction. The artists will work in collaboration with the local gallery La Stalla in St Moritz, Swappable, the NFT interface launched by TrustSwap for exclusive auctions from world renowned artists and celebrities, and Metagood. The auction will be divided into two parts: a pre-auction, where people can place bids online, and a live auction on site at the Segantini Museum on January 13th 2022 for attendees of CfC St. Moritz. The auction will be led by Bertold Müller, Delegate of UNICEF Switzerland & Liechtenstein, and managing director for Continental Europe, Middle East & Africa at Christie’s.

Furthermore, CfC St. Moritz and UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein, are also planning to host an NFT exhibition and auction in Summer 2022 for Giga, featuring the digitized work of multiple artists. The event will also bring together traditional artists with blockchain experts to offer education about the creation of NFTs, empowering artists to capitalize on the fast-evolving market for digital artwork.

CfC St. Moritz is a recognized platform for bringing together the digital asset sector with that of traditional finance, policy and social good, and has facilitated the long-term financing of Giga in recent years. At the CfC St. Moritz 2020, Nicolo Stöhr hosted Chris Fabian, Co-Founder of Giga, and Bill Tai, founder of ACTAI, to kick off the UNICEF Cryptofund, the first cryptocurrency fund in the public sector, which has since received more than 2500 ETH and 8 BTC, and made investments into more than 20 early stage tech startups in emerging markets.

Chris Fabian said: “The long-term collaboration we have established with CfC St. Moritz provides Giga and UNICEF with much needed access to new industries. In addition to launching the cryptofund, In 2020, the CfC St. Moritz provided my team with an introduction to Minister Ibrahima Guimba-Saidou, special advisor to the president of Niger. Through this connection, we developed a strong partnership, and are working closely with the Government of Niger after their receipt of $100 million in World Bank financing for last-mile and school connectivity. Niger and 18 other countries are working with Giga to provide access to the internet for children who are otherwise excluded from the digital future.”

Nicolo Stöhr, CEO of CfC St. Moritz, said: “Our aim is to provide a platform where investors from traditional finance and digital finance can come together with leading enterprises, governments and regulators, and traditional banks and central banks, to discover new opportunities. In tandem with this, we want to facilitate the growth of the digital assets space with a strong foundation in social good. The NFT auction in January 2022 brings together partners from different worlds and industries, including UNICEF, Stalla Madulain, Swappable and TrustSwap, and Metagood. We are leveraging the opportunities offered by innovations in the digital economy to support the connectivity between schools.”
