Young people are taking responsibility, showing courage and determination, and becoming role models for their generation. Following its launch last year, UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein is once again searching for the «Voice of Youth» in 2026. 20 Minuten is providing editorial coverage of the initiative, including a community poll and the announcement of the winner of the «Voice of Youth 2026» award.
Young people are making their voices heard and bringing important perspectives into the public debate. Through the «Voice of Youth» award, UNICEF provides a platform for young people whose commitment, achievements and values are making a difference. Whether in culture, sport, society, the environment, the economy or other areas of social relevance, the «Voice of Youth» highlights inspiring young role models who take responsibility and give their generation a voice.
«This award amplifies the voices of young people, strengthens their confidence in their ability to make a difference and gives public recognition to their commitment», says Bettina Junker, Executive Director of UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
Each year, UNICEF's «Voice of Youth» award recognises young people under the age of 24 who have achieved something exceptional during the year or whose commitment has made a significant impact. In exceptional, duly justified cases, two individuals may also submit a joint application.
How the 2026 selection process works:
UNICEF identifies and reviews potential candidates before selecting eight to take part in the process. These candidates are first introduced on UNICEF's communication channels. 20 Minuten then provides editorial coverage of the initiative, with its community selecting five of the eight candidates to advance to the final round through an online poll.
A jury with four equally weighted votes then selects the «Voice of Youth 2026» from among the five finalists. The jury consists of UNICEF Ambassador Tina Weirather, the UNICEF Youth Community with one collective vote, UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein staff members under the age of 24, and Mahbube Ibrahimi, last year's «Voice of Youth» award winner.
The «Voice of Youth 2026» award ceremony will take place on 18 November in Zurich. 20 Minuten will announce the winner in an article published on 20 November.
