Every little bit helps

In the past, a region might have suffered from war or drought. Today, the compounded effects of multiple crises are robbing millions of children of their childhoods through the loss of their homes, through hunger, violence and disease. But there is hope: Together, we can make a change. Every little bit helps.

The world’s children need our help more than ever. Today, one in six children lives in a conflict zone. In places like Ukraine, Sudan, Gaza and Afghanistan, children are subject to violence and don’t have adequate food, shelter, safe water or education.

At the same time, inflation, rising food and energy costs, and less foreign aid funding mean that more families are falling into poverty. One in five children lives in extreme poverty. Many of them must work to survive, which keeps them out of school. And then there are droughts, floods and earthquakes: These disasters destroy crops, contaminate water sources and threaten the lives of countless children. Those living in the Sahel, the Horn of Africa and Afghanistan are particularly affected.

These children need our help, especially now.

Together, we can do good things, despite the numerous crises and challenges. For nearly 80 years, UNICEF has fought for the welfare of children – every day, in over 150 countries. We work to give children access to healthy food, safe water, education, medical care, hygiene and psychosocial support, so that they can have a real chance for a better future. In 2024 we helped to improve the lives of millions of children, together with you:

  • 251 million children under five received services for early detection of malnutrition; 9.3 million were treated for severe acute malnutrition.
  • 26 million children and youth not in school – 9 million of them in crisis areas – received access to education.
  • Over 18 million people received access to sanitary facilities, 33 million to safe water and 21 million to hygiene services.
  • In 110 countries, 6.2 million children exposed to violence received assistance through health, support and legal services.

These figures show that your help makes a difference. Together with you and our partners, we made meaningful progress. Global child mortality has fallen to half since the year 2000. Millions of children are alive today because they received access to basic care.

However, without decisive political action and sufficient investment, these hard-won successes may disappear. Millions of children around the world could die from preventable causes. We cannot let that happen.

Every contribution – whether a small, one-time amount or a recurring donation – helps UNICEF provide immediate and effective aid to children. Together with our ambassadors, we mobilize Switzerland and Liechtenstein to protect and assist children in need:

Every child has the right to a safe future. If the people of Switzerland and Liechtenstein stand together, every single donation can give the gift of hope.
