The psychological distress experienced by children, adolescents and young adults has increased significantly in recent years, both in Switzerland and internationally. Against this backdrop, UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein commissioned a comprehensive literature review from the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW). The aim of the review was to systematically compile the current state of research on risk and protective factors influencing the mental health of young people aged 6 to 24.
The publication not only provides a clear overview of key findings from international systematic reviews and recent Swiss data, but also highlights the areas that remain insufficiently researched. Building on this analysis, the review formulates concrete recommendations – both for future research and for professionals and institutions working to promote the mental health of children and adolescents.
